Enfields in Queue: Iraq

After the Great War (WWI, 1914-1919) Iraq (Mesopotamia) was made a British Protectorate by the League of Nations. Throughout the 1920’s and 1930’s Britain supplied the Iraqi Army with weapons both from stores and by means of contracts with the Iraqi government. In 1940 the King of Iraq was overthrown by a military junta that sought ties with Nazi Germany. This provoked the British invasion of Iraq in 1941. After that, the story gets much more complicated.
